BREAKING NEWS: DeSoto County Assistant District Attorney, Thomas Waller, arrested for being intoxicated in court

HERNANDO, Miss. (TVMO) - At around 5:00 p.m. today, Assistant District Attorney Thomas Waller, from the DeSoto County District Attorneys office was arrested by Circuit Court Judge Wilson, for being in contempt of court.
According to the Order of Contempt, ADA Waller was intoxicated, while prosecuting a case before Judge Wilson. The order reads that Attorney Waller was visibly in an intoxicated state, emitting a strong odor of alcohol from his breath, and making incoherent arguments to the court.
As punishment for being intoxicated while presenting a case before the court, ADA Waller was sentenced to 11 days in prison, with all but 8 hours suspended. he has also been ordered to pay a fine of $100 within 10 days. In addition, Judge Wilson has ordered ADA Waller to report himself to the Lawyer’s and Judges Assistance Program within 10 days of his release from jail.
TVMO Community News reached out to DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office for comment, however, we were told that the Sheriff’s Office will not make a statement on this matter.
TVMO also reached out to the DeSoto County DA’s office, and were told the following by DA Barton, “I was made aware of an incident involving one of my ADA’s after 5:30 this evening and I will issue an official statement in the morning.”
